My whole life all I ever wanted to do is travel the world. I want to experience new things and immerse myself into cultures I have had no previous experiences with. I want to create memories that I will have for a life time. But, most importantly, I want to better myself. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in things I am doing at home, that I need time away. I am still so young and this year has been a year of many internal doubts about who I am and who I want to become. I need time to figure out who I am, to discover my passions, and to learn how to love myself more and I truly believe that traveling helps with all of that. Going to different places with an open mind always gives you a fresh perspective on your life. It sparks new ideas within you, motivating you to chase after what you want. You may even realize that your way of doing things is not the only way. It may not even be the best way.
I had many options of places I could go study this summer, but growing up with an Italian grandmother always made me have a piece of Italy in my heart. This was my chance to go back to my family roots. Being here is so surreal. I have woken up every morning around 7:30 and gone to the bakery downstairs on my way to class. In between classes I have been able to explore the city of Florence and all of it beautiful architecture and history. After classes end, I have had the privilege to travel to other parts of Italy that I have always wanted to see with my own eyes. It truly is a dream.
I know that I would not have opportunities like this if it wasn’t for the support of my parents. They have always done what they could to help make my goals a reality and I love them everyday for that.
I have been here for about three weeks now and I have fallen in love with the Italian lifestyle. I have been able to cross things off my bucket list (and yes 19 year olds are allowed to have those!) and I am ecstatic for the opportunity to cross off more.
